She is a keen science communicator and was named on the Forbes30under30 Europe list in the 'Science and Healthcare' category and a 2017 TEDGlobal fellow, giving her TED Talk on cancer survivorship in Arusha, Tanzania in August 2017. Since then she has given talks on survivorship and patient engagement in research to several organisations, including the National Institutes for Health (NIH), Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), Society of Neuro-oncology and the American Psychosocial Oncology society. She actively uses her personal experience as a survivor of childhood cancer to advocate for better survivorship care for children and families facing cancer, as well as new, kinder treatments. She has been a “patient partner” on more than a dozen research projects in Canada and the U.K. and she is a co-lead on the psychosocial and survivorship theme for the Canadian Pediatric Cancer Consortium ACCESS. Vicky is also a freelance science writer, having written for The Times, The Guardian and Forbes Health. She is a current contributor to Cancer World and Cancer Therapy Advisor.
